Anyhow, my candle buying history spreads far and wide. I like trying new things, but at the same time hate trying new things when it comes to candles. You see candles are a win loose deal. Sometimes when you buy from a new company you buy a candle because it spells gorgeous in the store. Yet when you bring it home and light it up, it smells weak, different, and in some cases even gag-o-licious.
I was very hesitant when I found a candle from a company called Aroma-Mix. I had never heard of this company, but here I was sniffing one of their candles, and falling completely in love.
The scent of the candle is called Caribbean Coconut. This particular candle though does not come in a jar (another reason I almost left it behind), it is just a stand up pillar candle. I don't usually buy pillar candles because I had an episode years ago that included a candle, a dresser, and a fire. I fell asleep with a pillar candle burning once, and it must have melted to a point where it could not hold its pillar shape anymore. Instead it poured over the dish and on top the dresser...somehow the dresser lit on fire.
I don't trust pillar candles for this reason.
I knew though, that if I did decide on buying the candle, I would place it in an old used glass jar. I refuse to buy candle 'dishes' because they are not 100% safe when it comes to burning pillar candles.
I decided to buy the candle because the scent was gorgeous. The first initial bang I got was coconut. I usually hate coconut scents products and candles because they always remind me of sun tan oil. I cannot stand the smell of suntan oil. It smells dirty, greasy and just makes me stomach turn.
Aroma-Mix Caribbean Coconut though did not have that fake sun oil smell to it. The candle instead smelled like a real fresh coconut mixed with something sweet, that sort of reminded me of honey suckle. For me Caribbean Coconut smelled like a tropical paradise, it smelled fresh, and real. The 2 scents combined, one subtle and one sweet, smelled like a musk that one would wear at night. I loved it. Loved it!
I purchased the 3 inch by 4 inch pillar, and hoped for the best. I hoped the pillar candle would smell just like it did right here and now, when I lit it. In the past I have come to realize that many pillar candles have a nice smell when you put your nose up to them, but when you actually burn them the scent is very subtle, and barely even detectable.
My Use:
I placed Aroma-Mix Caribbean Coconut into an an empty jar and lit the wick. I first removed all of the plastic wrap that was sealed around the candle. (I have gone into homes of soooo many dumb people who light candles with the plastic on. This is a frigging fire hazard people!)
I lit the wick, and waited for the rest to happen on its own. It took about a half hour for me to be able to smell it, and when it hit my nose, it hit it with a Caribbean kiss.
I could smell the coconut first and foremost. Then the sweet honey scent followed, combined it smelled just like I hoped it would. A lovely tropical paradise.
The smell is overall a very calming one, and puts me in a relaxed mood.
Overall:
I was not expecting that I would like this candle as much as I did. I thought the candle was on sale for a reason. I figured no one wanted to buy it, and they were just looking to get rid of them. I picked the candle up for a mere $3 and some change. Three bucks well spent man. I'm glad I gave pillar candles a try again.
Where To Buy:
I got this coconut queen at Kohl's. You too can still find this particular pillar candle there. You can also pick it up at their site www.kohls.com. I would however wait for it to go on sale.
