Nowadays anger seems like a common occurrence. There are cases of road rage wherein people have lost their lives. The country is at odds and upset over conflict in the middle east. A new presidential election is coming up and people are bound to take sides. Uncontrolled anger and anger management are not only buzz words and the name of a popular comedy movie; but, they are realistic problems that people and their loved ones have to deal with.

To many people who suffer from anger management, aromatherapy sounds like a very hokey solution. I don't believe that aromatherapy is a complete solution. But, combined with therapy, self examination and the taking of responsibility; I feel it could help in the treatment.

When the average person uninterested in aromatherapy thinks of aromatherapy, they think of inhaling a funky brew from a weird bowl; or maybe just inhaling herbs themselves. But, there are many other ways to deliver healing aromas to the body while producing the same results.

First off lets discuss the herb and essential oil aromas that can be used to counteract anger. These are:

Rose, Benzoin, Chamomile, Cedarwood Clary and Sage.

The essential oils I recommend the most are Rose, Benzoin and Chamomile. You can purchase these at your neighborhood health food store. Sometimes purchasing essential oils can be a little pricey, but a little usually goes a long way in the creation of your aromatherapy blend.

One of the easiest methods for aromatherapy delivery is to simply make a lotion or a gel. This is not hard. You don't have to make your lotion or gel from scratch unless you want to. You can often buy a gentle plain lotion from your grocery store; a basic lotion base from your neighborhood health food store, online or more expensively from the body shop. For gel, you can use aloe vera gel. It's lightweight and good for the skin.

If you want to go the least expensive route just purchase a plain lotion designed for sensitive skin from your grocery store. Some good ones to try are Cetaphil (or your store's generic version), Suave Oatmeal, or if it's winter and you have very dry skin; try Lubriderm or your store's imitation of it.

Purchase a small cobalt blue bottle or amber bottle from the health food store. So let's say you get a 5 ounce bottle. Pour out 5 ounces of your lotion or gel of choice into a glass mixing bowl or dish. Put in 10 drops of up to 3 essential oils (Rose Oil is mandatory) up to 30 drops and mix with a plastic spoon.

Using a funnel, pour into your bottle and use as needed. Test for breakouts or allergic reactions before using on face or body by applying inside of elbow and waiting 24 hours for a reaction.

If you have no reactions, put the lotion where you feel it is okay for your skin. Some suggestions are to massage into your hands and hold them close to your face; or actually rub a small amount under the nose.

If the scent of the lotion or gel is unpleasant to you or you feel it conflicts with your perfume, you can take a bath and put 10 drops of each of the 3 oils. You can also carry a bottle of rose oil around with you and breathe it in whenever you feel it's necessary. But, one of the easiest and most effective delivery methods is through the skin.
