I found out when we were trying to get pregnant just how powerful the senses can be. I not only took part in things such as acupuncture and yoga which helped with relaxation, but also learned about how powerful aromatherapy can be. I never got into all of the reasons behind it, I just knew that certain scents could calm me and give me a clear head. This then carried over into pregnancy and I learned very quickly that sniffing peppermint, even if just in a tea bag could help to ease some of the nausea that I encountered. Now the time for being a new mom was here, and I never knew just how much aromatherapy could help me.
I will admit it, I was overwhelmed and a bit emotional when I got home from the hospital with my new baby girl. I felt terrible and guilty as a new mom, I knew what a blessing she was (and is!) but I didn't know what end was up. I remembered just how much aromatherapy had helped me in pre-conception and pregnancy, so I figured it was worth a try. Here are a few things that worked for me, I hope that they give you a bit of relief.
*Bath & Body Works can be a lifesaver! Who would have ever know just how much their products can help a new mom who needs a little aromatherapy relief from her hectic day. It started off with just using the hand soap in the scent of White Tea & Ginger, somehow it seemed to calm me when I used it. I went shopping and found that they had a whole line of aromatherapy products. I'm sure that there's something for everyone, but I have found that the Mint Calming Spray that they have is amazing. You spray it on your pillow before bed to help you relax and fall asleep, but in my quest to chill out a bit I have used it to spray a room and I swear that it's instant aromatherapy relief for me.
*I have even found that some of the basics that Bath & Body offer are instant relief for stress. Their Pineapple Shower Gel takes you immediately to an island in your mind, it's so refreshing. I also feel like their Warm Vanilla Sugar or Vanilla Bean Noel (only out at Christmas time so stock up!) give you the immediate sensation of baking cookies, they are just delicious smelling. These may not be your typical aromatherapy products, but for a fraction of the price they work perfectly to help the new mom.
*One of my closest friends sells Party Lite and they have some wonderful products! I along with many others that I know are lovers of the Mulberry candles, and they have soothed my frayed nerves many a day. Just burning the candle fills the room with a very "homey" smell and with all the scents that Party Lite has to offer, you are bound to find something that works well for your aromatherapy needs.
*This one may sound silly, but I have found the smell of Fabreeze is calming. Sure, this product that you can buy at any grocery store may be snubbed by aromatherapy experts, but there is something fresh about this scent that calms me down. It also helps to freshen up, so I kill two birds with one stone!
Being a new mom is the most amazing job ever! It can also take a lot out of you, so aromatherapy can offer you some stress relief when time for yourself is limited.I hope that my tips help other new moms out there!
