Aromatherapy essential oils offer several benefits beyond pleasant fragrances. It is helpful to be educated about them if it is desired to use them therapeutically.

Aromatherapy Essential Oils and Five Proven Benefits You Might Want to Know About

1. Aromatherapy essential oils regenerate tissue, oxygenate cells and build immune systems. Whatever properties are found in herbs are found in essential oils. However, they are magnified because oils are concentrated. It takes 30,000 roses to make one drop of rose oil.

2. Aromatherapy essential oils easily penetrate tissue because of their small, molecular size.

3. Aromatherapy essential oils contain oxygen which transports nutrients to cells even if the cell wall is hard. Essential oils affect every cell in the human body within 20 minutes and then are metabolized as nutrients.

4. Aromatherapy essential oils are antioxidants as determined by the ORAC tests from Tufts University. Antioxidants are substances or nutrients which prevent or slow oxidative damage to the body. The antioxidants in essential oils prevent mutation, work as free radical scavengers, prevent fungus and prevent oxidation in cells.

5. Aromatherapy essential oils help the emotional, physical, and spiritual areas. They help with emotions because:

A. When inhaled, aromatherapy essential oils go to the brain. The sense of smell is the only one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain. The limbic is the emotional control center. All other senses are routed through the thalamus and then to other parts of the brain.

B. Aromatherapy essential oils by-pass intellect. Think about roses or a sewer treatment plant. Emotions and memories are evoked first then thoughts follow.

With a small molecular structure that is concentrated with nutrients and oxygen, aromatherapy essential oils are effective for any number of ailments. To use aromatherapy essential oils therapeutically, look for brands that are in AFNOR and ISO compliance.

Or, look for aromatherapy essential oils that are classified as food grade. Also look for first pressed and low temperature distilled aromatherapy essential oils for the best brands.

Otherwise, essential oils may be cut with solvents or chemicals. Chemical companies create synthetic aromatherapy essential oils from chemicals. These oils are not recommended for therapeutic use.
