Aromatherapy is a Very Effective Stress Relief Technique

One stress relief technique that is sometimes over looked is Aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is one of the simplest techniques used to manage stress, and it is very effective. Extensive study and considerable evidence has been discovered that confirms that fragrant compounds and aromatherapy essential oils can have a profound effect on your mind and behavior.

Aromatherapy is probably the most increasingly popular holistic treatment of our time. Almost everyone has experienced some of the benefits of aromatherapy, sometimes without even realizing it, and modern medicine has come to agree with the benefits aromatherapy can provide. The key to true aromatherapy is the use of pure essential oils. Essential oils are known to be used for a variety of therapeutic purposes.

Essential oils are absorbed into the body in two main ways, inhalation and absorption through skin. When an essential oil is inhaled, it activates the nerve cells in the nasal cavity which send impulses that stimulate the brain and produce positive feelings and emotions, including stress relief. And when an essential oil penetrates the skin, it enters the bloodstream and releases the physical therapeutic benefits of the oils.

Inhaling or absorbing the appropriate fragrance can reduce stress, relieve depression, induce a restful sleep, soothe your soul, or give you more energy. Even hospitals are now experimenting with the use of aromatherapy to help patients relax, and induce healing.

There are more than 90 essential oils, each having its own health benefits, and there is a wealth of information available on the benefits and usage of each essential oil, and the therapeutic use of essential oils.

Lavender, bergamot, marjoram, sandalwood, lemon, and chamomile were found to relax brain waves. The most sedating oils were found to be neroli, petitgrain, chamomile, valerian, and opopanax, and Aromatherapist's find ylang ylang to be another potent relaxant.

My favorite way of using essential oils for stress relief is in a diffuser. Diffusers are a wonderful way to saturate your environment with the fragrance of the essential oils. Diffusers allow you to enjoy the powerful scent of the essential oil in its purest form. My favorite essential oil for stress relief is lavender.

If you are looking for a simply and effective stress relief technique give aromatherapy a try. You may be pleasantly surprise.
