Arrogance

Anwar Azad
Arrogance is a curse, pretty much wide spread in the world we live in today. I used to be cursed by this evil, and still do fall in and out of it. I have seen first hand what it can do to you, and those around you, and describing it as 'it ain't pretty' would be a gross understatement.

There are ample examples from world history, where arrogance played a key role in some of the most devastating and gruesome events. Arrogant world leaders such as Hitler, Richard Nixon, Saddam Hussein, George W Bush has taken or crippled the lives of millions, intoxicated by power, greed and sheer ignorance. You could see its effects in your day to day life too. But arrogance isn't something new. It existed even before the first human set foot on earth.

When All Mighty Allah (God) سبحانه وتعالى‎ created the first human being Adam (RA), Allah(SWT) asked all the Angels to prostrate (bow down) to Adam (RA). All did, with the exception of Ibilis (AKA Shaytan AKA Satan AKA The Devil). His reason for this insolence was that, he a jinn (Made of smokeless fire) was superior than Adam a human being (Made out of clay). Allah(SWT) was angered by Iblis's arrogance, and order him out of heaven and further, promised that ibilis will be punished in hell fire. Ibilis asked to grant him respite until the day of Qiyamah (Resurrection). Allah(The most merciful) granted this wish, because Ibilis used to be the most pious and loyal worshipper of Allah and also because he knew what would follow. Ibilis vowed that he would mislead Adam and all his progeny astray from the path of truth, except, if they were devoted to Allah. Since that day, Ibilis and his henchmen (Shayateen, the helpers of Ibilis) has been relentless in their effort to mislead human beings from the righteous path of life laid out to us by Allah (SWT).

As you can see, arrogance is the trademark of Ibilis, and I pray to Allah (SWT) that he strengthen our Iman, and protect us and our families from this curse, and its effects from others.
