Art Collecting with a Limited Budget

John Vann
Many people dream of owning fine artwork and sculptural pieces. Beautiful art can liven up any room or decor, and is a great way to show off your sense of style and of course, wealth too. But what many people don't understand is that you really don't have to be a millionaire in order to start collecting art - all you need is a keen eye and a love for art.

Art comes in all kinds, shapes, sizes and forms. And while it is true that many pieces demand prices in the thousands, tens of thousands, or even millions of dollars, there are tons of great, high quality and expertly crafted works of art that can be found for well under one hundred dollars.

First of all, check your local newspaper and even television news reports. They may have some information on estate sales or even art gallery sales, where you can pick up some high value artwork at bargain prices. A lot of times discount art galleries are set up in local malls, retail stores and shopping outlets as well - this is also a great way to find some great deals.

Art fairs and festivals are very common during the spring and summer months, as well. Here you can vendors from all over the country and even from all parts of the world. You might find a particular piece or style of art that you may not have even been aware of before.

Garage sales, just like estate sales, are a great place to find deals on artwork, too. Many times some artwork has been left behind in a house from a previous owner, or handed down from generation to generation. Sometimes this stuff gets is too cumbersome are too awkward to store, and as a result it may end up in a yard sale. But you never know what you may find at one of these garage or yard sales - indeed people have even stumbled across pieces worth thousands of dollars; unbeknownst to the owner, of course.

The internet is another resource you can use to find great artwork at discount prices, but you want to make sure you get what you are paying for. Be certain that you are buying from a reputable art dealer, and be sure to do proper homework before buying any kind of artwork over the internet. Many times it is authentic - but some people, however, are just out there to make a quick buck from forged or counterfeit art.
