P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center is Long Island's most famous art institutions. With amazing exhibits, often of experimental and innovative art, architecture installations, solo and group shows, and an affiliation with MOMA, this is the place to visit. It even has its own internet radio station. The Noguchi Museum is famous for its rock garden and is home to the work of Isamu Noguchi, the famous Japanese American artist and landscape architect. The museum, located in a converted factory, has 13 galleries and showcases works in stone, wood, clay and more. B.J. Spoke Gallery is a cooperative owned by its members. It showcases emerging artists and established artists of all disciplines, has a juried show, and even offers lectures by guest speakers. Fisher Landau Center for Art is a gallery centered on contemporary art, including such famous artists as Jasper Johns. It's appeal is not only its work but that its also almost a secret so, when you go, you may even have the place completely to yourself. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
