From the moment you walk into this small Denton coffeehouse, whether through the door on Scripture or the one on Bryan, you'll feel right at home among the art displays, quiet environment, and excellent coffee. Art Six is more than a coffeehouse; it's an art collective, and this fact is apparent not only in the constantly-rotating displays of paintings, photography and other media hanging on the walls, but also in the long line of upcoming activities in the cafe, from live music and arts festivals to movies shown outside on a big screen every Friday night.

On a weekday, Art Six is the ideal place to study, read, or work. The quiet environment is just as ideal for friends meeting for conversation over coffee as it is for students cramming for an organic chemistry final. Because Art Six is located in what was once a house, there are plenty of rooms and tables and couches as well as additional space for those willing to brave the mercurial north texas weather. Countless outlets and wireless internet only add to this coffeehouse's charm; there is no wrestling for a table or waiting in long lines just to find seating. Art Six is by far the roomiest cafe in Denton, and even on nights when it's packed, it's still far from unreasonable.

The staff members behind the counter and running the various shows are reliable and always ready with a kind word and a smile, from the coffee slingers to the owner. Come into Art Six often enough, and you'll come to know everyone who works there. Invent a new drink good enough and creative enough, and they'll name it after you and add it to their menu. The main difference you'll note between Art Six and the other coffeehouses in the area is that while you might be treated like a valued customer elsewhere, at Art Six, you're treated like family.

Menu items at Art Six range from the more commonplace coffee and tea variations to the higher scale Italian Sodas and Italian Cream Sodas, but you'll find, thrown into the mix, an array of personal touches. From drinks named after members of the theatre department who know, definitively, how they like their coffee to the quirky "Butterbeer" served in the chillier season (think butterscotch and foamed milk, with little butterscotch chips sprinkled on the top), sure to draw a smile from Harry Potter fans. Prices range from around one to four dollars for most items.

Food items are typically constant, but can vary from day to day- there are daily specials on soup, but sandwiches are available anytime. During Friday night movies, hot dogs and popcorn are ridiculously inexpensive, so you're sure to have your fill of dinner with your movie. This impressively economic choice also makes Art Six one of the top 5 date spots in Denton!

I've personally tried pretty much everything on the menu that isn't coffee related, and my coffee loving friends swear by the remainder of the items. I've never met disappointment at Art Six, and I've yet to hear complaints from anyone else who's been there. I've spent many a winter afternoon snuggled up with my trusty laptop and a pot of tea, and I was so comfortable that I stayed for dinner and some live music afterwards.

The only downside to depending on Art Six for your coffee/cultural dependence is that they aren't open nearly often enough. Here you have an establishment that seems to genuinely believe that its employees should get a break once in a while. For the high quality of service that you get for utterly affordable rates, you won't really mind the hours so much. You'll miss Art Six, defintely, but you won't mind.
