Article Writer's Best Friend: the Notebook

Writer's Notebook

Marie M. Daniels
Lately I have been getting a little bit more article writing accomplished. Due to the fact that I have to sit and wait in a school parking lot for about an hour when picking my children up at the end of the school day. So I have a notebook and a pen that I leave in my minivan, right beside the drivers side seat.

I have been using the notebook to write about what I know. I cannot really write articles where I have to do much research. I use the notebook because I cannot look up the information on the computer. I can however write some articles that need minimal research. Such as looking up a fact or quote to support my articles later when I can sit down at my computer. I can also take my notes and check my facts to make sure I actually knew what I thought was correct and to check my spelling.

I know I need to carry or have a notebook with me wherever we go. I have notebooks in my purse, the car, around the house and on my nightstand. I just never know when an article idea will strike or when I just need to sit down and write out an entire article. You really never know when inspiration will hit you. Unfortunately the "good" computer I use is not always accessible to me when I want it. So I have been using my handy dandy notebook as a way to catch up and fill in the spaces when I do not have the computer access.

Now if you are fortunate enough to have a notebook computer or netbook or laptop then you can use it in the same way I use my pen and paper to write. I actually prefer to write on paper compared to writing my articles down into word. I think it is all that white space up on the screen that is just taunting me and daring me to fill it up. I do not feel the same way about the blank space in my notebook paper. Although it is sometimes tedious to write out an article on paper then have to type it up later.

So if you would like to be more prosperous in your writing you may want to think about carrying around a notebook or having access to one wherever you go. I know at times I have been somewhere and not had one and only had a small scrap of paper. Well that little scrap of paper was not big enough to get every thought written down and my inspiration will suffer or the article may never get written. So even a small notebook can give an author a writing advantage.

Good idea! I like buying cute journals, notebooks, etc. Now I have another use for them!

Really great advice! I try to carry a notebook with me all the time, and it's amazing how much it helps.
