Artie Gross Book Review

"In the Light of Scripture: Why Christians Shouldn't Vote for Liberals"

I met Artie Gross about ten years ago. We are the unlikeliest of friends. Our opinions differ on most subjects, and we enjoy debating issues and opinions with one another. When Artie told me he had written a book that was being published I was surprised to say the least, but excited to read it at the same time. I figured if nothing else we would have something further to argue with one another.

In the fall of 2008 I received my copy of his book "In the Light of Scripture: Why Christians Shouldn't Vote for Liberals". I immediately thought to myself "Oh no, we never agree on politics or religion, and I am supposed to read a book on both?" As I continued to read it, I found I couldn't put it down. While I don't agree with everything in the book, I do agree with some, which I shocked myself by.

Recently I sat down with Artie to discuss his book with him. I asked him what inspired him to write a book. He stated "I am a very opinionated person and politics is one thing that I'm very passionate about. I enjoy watching political debate shows on TV and listening to talk radio. One day I decided that I had a lot to say on the issues that I was listening to everyone else discuss. Often, I felt I could make more sense than they were, so I decided to take a shot at it and the book began to take shape." As a co-worker of Artie's I know all too well of his obsession for AM talk radio.

In his book Artie discusses such subjects as abortion, homosexuality, war, the church as a provider for those in need, and the Supreme Court and how all of these relate to the Bible as a basis for making decisions at the voting booth. When asked what he hopes readers learn from his book Artie said "I want people of all political persuasions to stop and think about the votes they are casting. I especially hope that Christians will make every attempt to bring their voting decisions in line with what the Bible says on the issues. As for non-Christians, my hope is that they will understand what it is that motivates the Christian conservative to believe they way we do and realize that we are not simply close-minded religious zealots. The big thing for everyone to understand is that this book is not partisan. It deals with conservatism versus liberalism, and both ideologies are represented in each of our main political parties."

Not only has Artie written this book, but he also blogs on his website. Here you will find more of his wit and humor on politics and religion. You can also order his book here or from Amazon.com.
