Artist Andy Amato
According to Mr. Amato's website at www.andyamato.com, the artist has a special love for creating portraits. The combination of his artistic talents with his love of American history, particularly the Civil War, resulted in his Civil War Portrait Gallery.
When asked what inspired his love of American history and the Civil War, Mr. Amato replied that he thought it had probably started the day he was born. The artist shares a birthday with President Abraham Lincoln.
His Art
Mr. Amato's online biography at andyamato.com states that he likes realism in his works of art.
"My intention is to create art that looks like what it imitates. When rendering a historical portrait for example my hope is that it does justice to the person I am trying to capture, and that it will be easily recognizable by the people who view it."
He says he uses different media when producing his works of art and that, on occasion, he may mix media to get a certain effect.
In addition to his historical portraits, he creates works of art featuring musicians, sports figures, birds, movie monsters and the occasional fighter jet.
Prints of some of Mr. Amato's work are available at his online store at andyamato.com. Some artwork originals can be purchased by contacting the artist.
While Mr. Amato is unable to accompany his works of art to Monroe, he said in a private communication that he hopes to visit Monroe soon. He currently resides in Boston, MA with his wife and three children.
Civil War Celebration
Mr. Amato's artwork will be exhibited during Monroe's Ninth Annual Custer Week, the theme of which is a Civil War Celebration.
The week long program will feature living history events, educational speeches, book signings, and visits from notable Civil War characters from history.
Monroe's Ninth Annual Custer Week begins on Saturday, September 29 and ends on October 7.
