Laura Gilbert may be an artist, but she is trying to make a point. Laura Gilbert is a painter and printmaker. She handed out copies of her "Zero Dollar Bill" on Tuesday in Front of New York's Stock Exchange, on the steps of Federal Hall and in the financial district on Tuesday, October 7th to make her point known. According to an Associated Press article, Gilbert feels that the US Dollar bill is worth "zero" in this financial meltdown that this country seems to be experiencing. Gilbert gave out 10,000 copies of her Artwork on Tuesday to protest the breakdown of the United States economy. Her print, "The Zero Dollar" is an exact print of a normal US one dollar bill, except that it has zeros where the ones should be. Laura Gilbert was trying to bring attention to the "destructive role of many financial institutions, inflation, and the decline of US currency to the point of seeming worthless." Gilbert seems to feel as many Americans do about the financial crisis, and the value of US currency, she just decided to bring attention to the fact in her own way.
