as American as Cream Pie!

Werner Haas
It is time to remind ourselves about the basic stupidity of the majority of American voters. The Jim Carrey movie, Dumb and Dumber applies when otherwise decent American elect people like Michele Bachmann and Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell, and all those Tea Party-ers and pay small fortunes to attend the in-person rants of Sarah Palin. What can the rest of us do to make these people visible symbols of ignorance, prejudice and the desire to turn their vision of the U.S. Constitution into the bylaws of the NRA and the bible of the John Birch society? I have a suggestion. Forming a nationwide cream pie brigade.

I propose arming ourselves with juicy cream or lemon meringue pies and hurling them into the faces of these people who are taking their right-wing, ultra-conservative, biased and truly evil ways of running this country and obstructing the right of decent Americans to live lives protected rather than blocked by the REAL meaning of our federal Constitution. I want to see meringue dribbling own the various chins of that redneck Kentuckian, Mitch McConnell. I'd live to see juicy cream filling rolling down Michele Bachmann's cleavage. And, while I would roar with laughter as Sarah Palin removes those expensive glasses to rub off some excess goodies, I wouldn't mind seeing Todd's J.C. Penney suit covered with it, as well.

I propose this as an example to the rest of us concerning the ludicrousness of these people and their ideas, no matter how they came by them. There is no better way to expose their ideas, much like the Emperor's new clothes, than by making them the laughingstock of America.

As I sit watching the news of Tea Party types marching in Madison Wisconsin, giving voice to their Republican governor's attempt to destroy the unions, I am reminded of my very young years, watching Brown and Black Shirts marching to destroy decency in Germany. I remember, in the 1980s, watching Le Pen's neo-Nazis marching in Paris with equal disgust. There is this dire threat in our country today, but it is not like white plantation owners seceding from Northern industrialists. It is that the inmates want to run the asylum and make insanity the law of the land.

So, to those ready to storm the shelves of Marie Callenders to hurl their opinions of the Tea Party ideologues, may I leave you with the words of that cynic, Oscar Levant who said it is not what you are but what you didn't become that hurts. If we don't do something, our future will be dimmer than Tripp Palin's brain.
