As Goes Arizona - so Goes America

Herb Austin
It is being reported that the president will not be seeing Arizona's governor at her request this week - although he appears to have time for an aging rock star and a soccer team. Presumably the requested visit was to discuss the growing unrest and possible rupture in Arizona from an overflow of uninvited aliens across that state's border. Washington seems to have forgotten that Arizona's border is also the border for all Americans. Our fifty states came together to form that "more perfect union" - and when that fails at any point, we all fail. Trespassers into Arizona trespass us all.

In 1986 we looked up to see 3 million uninvited guests from across that southern border. We granted amnesty - with the implied promise to the American people that henceforth we would set reasonable immigration quotas according to our needs and based on how many new immigrants at one time we were able to handle. This didn't happen. Today we have up to 20 million uninvited guests in this country, the majority from over that same southern border. The nation's immigration quotas are today being set by someone else - and in numbers that that we are clearly not prepared to handle. This doesn't affect just Arizona, Mr. Prez, it affects us all.

Mr. Obama, instead of your refusing to meet in the White House with the governor of Arizona, perhaps you should be visiting with her in Arizona - hat in hand - and with the admission that this entire affair was the failing of the United States Government - then make an honest effort to together find the best solution to the problem.

As goes Arizona - so goes America.

Tell that rock star he'll have to wait.

Herb, I am with you on this one, my friend. I think I mentioned to you before, it's worth mentioning again, my grandfather came thru Ellis Island from Italy. He got a job (two jobs actually) and worked day and night, perfecting his English, applying for citizenship. He taught us all to work hard, serve our country and never take a red cent or a handout from anyone. Three generations of Americans followed: serving in the military, civil service and all were college educated and Proud to be American. You wanna come to America? You gotta work for her - she doesn't come cheap and it is not easy. Wake up Washington, before we lose our values. Cheers
