As Good as it Gets

J J Daniels
You are so special,
I love you, my son.
You are first in my heart,
second to none,

You are learning so much,
Not missing a trick.
I couldn't ask for better,
If I'd had my pick.

I know you're on loan,
from Heaven above.
Filling my life,
with such joy and such love.

I live for your laughter,
I long for your smile.
To hear you say Mommy,
I would travel for miles.

I'll always remember,
and never forget.
That having you for a son,
Is as good as it gets.

I wrote this poem for my disabled son. He has a trach and is on a ventilator and we were told that he wasn't going to live to be very old. We are now being told that he has already outlived what all the doctors thought he would and he was 11 in 2006.
