As Seen on Oprah Red Olympic Mittens | Where to Buy Olympic Mittens

Why Can't Oprah Keep a Good Thing to Herself?

Oprah's New Favorite Thing - Where to Buy Olympic Mittens?
You would have thought Oprah was giving away an iPad not just a pair of red Olympics mittens on an Olympics recap show with snowboarder Shaun White. Clever headlines abound like "Oprah Smitten with Mittens". Headlines even go so far to say that because of Oprah that red Olympic mittens sales are red hot. But where can you buy red Olympic mittens?

Red Vancouver 2010 Olympic Mittens Were Popular Before Oprah
Even before Oprah's big giveaway, Canadians have been jumping on the red Olympic mittens phenomenon since they first went on sale October 2009, making it the most popular selling merchandise. The price point, only $10 has made them a bestseller long before Oprah started promoting the red mittens. Before the Oprah hype, the Olympics red mittens had sold well over 2 million and was exceeding sales expectations, on track to sell out the 3 million in production.

Oprah, Why Couldn't You Have Made the Cowbell Your New Favorite Thing?
I'm not sure if VANOC the official organizing committee as a spur of the moment thing sent Oprah a box or if they've been planning this forever and the Oprah production team finally took notice. After all, they probably thought, what's so special about these red mittens. Oprah could have hyped up the Olympic cowbell with Shaun White saying how it helps to hear the crowd cheer him on, especially when they hear more cowbell which is apparently the third most popular Olympic souvenir after the Olympic hoodie.

What If You Still Want to Buy Canadian Red Olympic Mittens As Seen on Oprah?
In an interesting play on words, if you can't get the red olympic mittens at the Bay -- you'll need to track them down on eBay which I think is hugely ironic. You can just enter the keywords "red olympic mittens" or even "red olympic mittens as seen on Oprah" and you'll have your choice of over 200-300 red mittens for sale which are ranging from $20-$30. The official Hudson's Bay website lists them as sold out and there's no indication what stock is like in store or if they will be getting more in stock once the shipment is depleted. The website is not accepting back orders either.

Red Olympic Garden Gloves
By the time the Olympics are over, the snow will be long gone from Vancouver along with interest in these Red Olympic Mittens and like so many beanie babies before it, how many eBay sellers will be stuck with extra pairs of red mittens? But what if someone were to manufacture red olympic garden gloves? Or just stick a white canadian flag emblem on a pair of red garden gloves? Hmmmm....

Hi, I love to write about music, entertainment, food and anything else that catches my interest. When I'm not writing, I get paid to garden for a living.  View profile
