I am one of those people that sometimes find themselves sitting on the couch late at night, flipping through the channels and often times landing on one those infomercials. No matter WHAT the product is, the people on these commercials are very good at convincing people, myself included that it is something I just can't live without. Especially if it is a weight loss product. Over the years I have racked up a number of work out dvds, videos and equipment, not to mention "magic pills" that are now collecting dust in my closet, or have since been thrown out, like the money I wasted on them. However, there are a few items that I am very glad that I purchased, and feel were well worth the money.
Tae Bo. When I was a senior in high school, I was pretty overweight. I never went out anywhere, and stayed at home and worked on my computer most nights. This did not help the weight problem. One Saturday morning, I was watching one of those paid program infomercials for Tae Bo. This was 1999 when Tae Bo was first becoming very popular. I had never heard of it before, and the success stories on the commercial were extremely inspiring. Billy Blanks seemed as if he was literally talking to me. For those of you that have never heard of Tae Bo, it is a cardio-boxing aerobics workout. It can be very intense, and you WILL sweat. My mother bought the tapes for me. As soon as I received them I was hooked. I did them twice a day, and with a low fat diet, I lost 60 or so pounds. I haven't done my Tae Bo in awhile, but I plan on picking it up again really soon.
Currently, on Tae Bo's website, you can purchase any number of Billy Blanks's Tae Bo dvds. Whether you are a beginner, or have been doing the workouts for years, there is a workout dvd specially designed for you.
Prices range from $14.95-$35.95 depending on what package you want to purchase. They are well worth the price.
Another great workout plan that I bought, is Beach Body's Slim In Six series. This workout claims to literally reshape your body in six weeks. People have been known to lose up to 25 lbs in that time. I lost about 15bs in that time and probably would have lost more, had I stuck with the pretty strict eating plan that they recommend. This is an extremely intense workout. I highly recommend it. This, combined with Tae Bo, combined with Winsor Pilates, which I will talk about next, will literally melt the pounds off of you.
Winsor Pilates is a program that uses your core muscles to sculpt and tone your body through a series of stretching exercises. While it looks like it is an easy program, causing people to think that it is TO easy, trust me, it is NOT too easy. Which is a good thing! If your body is extremely out of shape, you will need to take it slow, and practice, practice, practice these moves to get them down and feel comfortable with them. If you do at least the 20 minute workout six days a week, you will DEFINITELY feel it, and start to see the difference fairly quickly. When I was 180lbs I started doing Winsor Pilates. I started out with the instructional dvd, and worked my way up to the 20 minute basic workout in about three days. Combining Winsor Pilates and Weight Watchers, as well as walking and going other various forms of cardio, I got down to about 172lbs in a month. Unfortunately, two months later I got pregnant, and quit my program. However, during my OB visits my OB always commented on how strong my tummy muscles were. I truly believe it is because of Winsor Pilates.
In closing, I just have to say that all of these workout programs were WELL worth the money, and really DO work. If you are looking for a new workout, or one to accompany your old ones, check any of these out at their websites.
