As Starbucks Temporarily Shutters, Seattle's Best Coffee is an Alternative on Oahu

The Best Coffee Shop on Oahu

If you are a fan of Starbucks, then tonight just may not be your night. Starbucks will be closing their doors for a few hours tonight. What? Where am I going to go? Well, you are in luck as Seattle's Best Coffee will give you your caffeine fix in a much more relaxed environment.

It seems that you can find a Starbucks on every corner in Hawaii. If you are in the Waipahu or Waipio area where Starbucks have popular locations in the Laniakea Plaza and Waikele Shopping center, you can head over to Seattle's Best Coffee. And the great thing is it is directly across the street from Starbucks in Waipio.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is top notch. As if that were not enough, you can plug in your laptop and surf the internet on their free wireless internet service. The shop may not be as big as Starbucks, but it does offer a cozier feel to it. There are several tables in the shop; with several more outside if you would rather be outdoors. They also have several large chairs inside that you can plop down in and truth be told, I have napped in more than a few times.

The one thing though, is they do not have a restroom in their Waipio location so you may want to find facilities else where before heading down. They have a wide assortment of scones, paninis, bagels and more to snack on. The drinks are all pretty similar to Starbucks, perhaps because they are owned by Starbucks. If there is a drink that you like in particular at your favorite Starbucks and you do not see it on the menu, just let the barista know and they can recreate it for you.

To tell you the truth, closed or not, I still prefer Seattle's Best Coffee to Starbucks. For one thing all Starbucks are always crowded and that is not an exaggeration. Seattle's Best Coffee has a pretty good crowd, but not bad enough that you will find yourself standing around waiting for a table.

All in all, Seattle's Best is an adequate if not, dare I say, better location for coffee lovers. If you need your daily coffee shop fix, then head on down to Seattle's Best, they have several locations, but my favorite is the Waipio Gentry location located right off of the freeway next to the Costco shopping center. Check them out if you get the chance to.

My guess is that SBC will not exist by 2010. When you see what they did to Torrefazione Italia, this will eventually happen to SBC. TI was a really good coffee. From a brand management perspective, SBUX will have to make this move in order to save money. We have seen a many SBCs close down here in Seattle in the last years. When the Border's and Alaska Airlines license expires, you watch, SBC will go away. It's a shame! :(

You realize that Seattle's Best is owned by Starbucks, right?
