As Summer Slips In

A Summertime Poem

Khara E. House

Bits and pieces sail out into the world
this heated tapestry of red and flame.
Shades of warmth cascading diving you

and me and earth into dips from the water
pail up to lips dripping heavy. Shadows
willow thin creeping over hills ablaze--

this is taste of solstice lick of summer.
We learn to be in this equilateral temperament
of balm. Learn to soak up sunlight draw it

into our skin like reed veins drowning ourselves
at the shoreline where we bear our breasts
screaming to the solar clementine here we come.
