As the Sun Sets

Katie Sharp-Dierks
As the sun sets,
I walk farther away
From the encouraging arms of my parents,
And into a world of learning.
I revel in my new found freedom,
And in my new found friends.

As the sun sets,
I walk toward a bright new life,
Away from many of my friendships,
We have different paths to take.
Believing that my challenges are over,
When truly they are just beginning.

As the sun sets,
I let my children out into the world,
So they might find themselves,
Free to discover who they want to be
A new beginning for them,
Yet another ending for me.

As the sun sets,
I know all good things must end,
But I also embrace
That these endings lead to new beginnings,
An unbroken cycle
As the sun sets.

We trust that each time the sun sets, it shall rise again to announce a new day! Well done.
