The Bold and The Beautiful may have won top honors for Outstanding Drama Series at the Daytime Emmy's, but Michael Park, who has portrayed Jack Snyder on As The World Turns for 13 years took home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor, and Maura West, Carly Tenney on As The World Turns snagged the statue for Outstanding Lead Actress.
Add to those high profile wins, Julie Pinson's win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category for her portrayal as Janet Snyder, and you have to wonder why the show was even cancelled.
But cancelled it was.
And in recognition of more than half a century on the airwaves, As The World Turns received a minute long tribute at the Daytime Emmy's consisting of a montage of clips of As The World Turns' memorable moments over the years.
The industry and actor's may have said their farewell's, but this week As The World Turns fans say their final goodbye, as the last episode airs on ABC on September 17 at 2pm Eastern(1 pm Central and Pacific).
Then, As The World Turns joins a host of other recently cancelled Soap Operas, such as Guiding Light and Passions in the history books, leaving a scant handful of Daytime Dramas, or Soap Operas on the air.
As The World Turn's timeslot will likely be taken up by a cheaper to produce unscripted, or talk show (The Talk premieres on October 18, 2010), leaving ever shrinking opportunities for young actors to get their start in Hollywood. Daytime Dramas, or Soap Operas, have long been a training ground for green actors.
David Hasselhoff, credits the honing of his craft to his years as Snapper Foster on The Young and The Restless. Even the As The Word Turns tribute reel at the Daytime Emmy's, showing clips of a very young Meg Ryan, was a timely reminder that many of today's big screen names got their start in Soap Operas.
Daytime Soap Operas are not only a training ground for the next generation of stars, but also a platform for showcasing fashion, as our favorite daytime characters, scheme, manipulate and suffer through their daily lives in up to the minute fashions and hairstyles.

Post a CommentI can't believe that As the World Turns has been cancelled. I have been a viewer since the early days and will miss watching my show. Yes, that's how I think of it "My Show".
This is so difficult because when Guiding Light ended, I thought at least I still have As The World Turns. Now both are gone. I have been a long time viewer since I was 11 years old. I am now 46 and it is just sad to see it go when you literally grow up with it.
I am sooooooooo sad ATWT is ending...I am 40 yrs old and I watched it when I was a Little girl with my Grandmother...and now my daughter watches it with me...I've been a huge fan for many years and now I am truly, truly saddened by the shows end !!!!!
