Aschaffenburg, Germany - a Beautiful and Very Traditional City in Which to Visit

Kimberly Cummings
Aschaffenburg, Germany is a beautiful town it has so much to do and see and is not only modern in a lot of ways but remains very traditional at the same time Aschaffenburg is a river town which lies on the Main river. King Ludwig the first of Bavaria chose this town in which to reside and it boasts a beautiful museum that houses many cultural artifacts in the Schlossmuseum.

I lived in Hanau, German for many years and traveled to Aschaffenburg several times. The city has a lot of fascinating architecture and gardens some with some of the most beautiful trees in the spring that one could imagine. The city is very picturesque. It has a beautiful castle, a park with a popular attraction, the manor.

Aschaffenburg is also in Bavaria to us Americans and Bayern in Deutsch and in the fall they celebrate Oktoberfest which is a seasonal festival that is loads of exciting fun. Oktoberfest is commonly thought of as a Munich attraction however all cities in Germany celebrate this and Aschaffenburg is beautiful during the fall season and the festival beer gardens are everywhere. They have a great Christmas or christkindlmarkt bazaar at the castle as well as other great markets throughout the year. The festivals are extremely family oriented and the food is decadent and mouthwatering extravagant. Between the festivals and regular Deutsch culinary dishes

Aschaffenburg has to be one of my favorite vacationing spots in which to travel. Almost every town in Germany has there own local beer or brew and Aschaffenburg's has a great taste. The city is one of the few that has a great indoor mall and it is pretty great, the shopping is spectacular. In Germany it is normal for your dog to be with you everywhere except some food places however for the most part the hunds or dogs in American can travel with you most anywhere, which makes it great for any dog lover. The night life in Aschaffenburg is exceptional with the club which are awesome and the taverns or pubs are definitely the best. One of my favorite items in the summer months was gelato which is a Italian ice cream treat but there are ice cream stops everywhere in which to stop on the street at an outdoor cafe and have a ice cream. No need for cars in Germany, buses and walking is the method of standard transportation. Aschaffenburg has a moderate snow fall period during winter and it has a beautiful spring and summer season. Germany itself boasts typically all four seasons each year however the mountains of Bavaria typically have more snow than the lower altitudes. The city is very clean and the locals are very friendly and the city is a favorite of retired military.

The city has beautiful landscaped parks and gardens in which to stroll any season and has an excellent array of cultural and recreational attractions. Historic gardens include Schönbusch and Schlossgarten just to name a couple however gardens are all over the city. The river walks on the Main along with the forests of the Spessart offer a full list of recreational activities. Aschaffenburg is one of Germany's highland areas. The climate, landscape and forest areas provide an excellent backdrop for plenty of things to occupy you in the Spessart. In the winter you can even go skiing near Aschaffenburg. The river Main also offers a lot of opportunities for activities in Aschaffenburg such as water skiing, motor boat racing and of course swimming. The whole town is a great place in which to visit and there are plenty of places in which to stay including hostels the cheaper avenue to plenty of hotels which all offer good deals especially out of season travel accommodations. The thing is you have to plan ahead with your trip and do your research on the best times to get the best travel bargains. I prefer winter months because of the festivals connected with Christmas but early spring is good also.
