Ash Wednesday is marks the traditional beginning of the Christian season of Lent. The season of Lent is defined as a period of self-denial and self-sacrifice during the six weeks that lead up to Easter. Devout members of the Christian faith see this as a time of prayer and preparation.
The tradition of Lent involves the celebration of Ash Wednesday. It marks the period of 40 days leading up to Easter (not including Sundays). During this time period Christians will often abstain from certain activities or foods in devotion to God.
Not many churches responded to our requests for service times. In many churches, these times are still being planned. Ash Wednesday falls on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009.
