Ashland Oregon's Rock 'N Roll Dentist?

Dr. Kempf just might be the only Ashland dentist who devotes some of his spare time to playing guitar in a traveling Jesus rock and roll band. Aside from having fun and being an interesting person to talk to, he is also a well-established and respected man who has been practicing dentistry since 1978.

He began his career in Chicago where he attended the University of Chicago and later went on to do post grad work at OBI in San Francisco and Portland where he learned advanced procedures. He moved to Ashland in 1980 and has been helping strengthen the smiles of locals ever since. One thing he values is the importance of continuing education and knows that learning new technology is crucial for healthier and happy patients. "All dentists must stay current," he says.

Although he is proficient in all areas of dentistry, Dr. Kempf has a passion for working with patients who are experiencing TMJ (TemporoMandibular Joint, or the jaw joint) disorders. TMJ disorders are a collection of poorly understood disorders that are characterized by pain in the jaw and surrounding tissues and limitations in jaw movements. This can occur from injury or for other medical reasons like arthritis for example can cause problems for some people. Since 1993 Dr. Kempf has been helping people who suffer from bone pain and TMJ issues find relief. "It's rewarding to see a patient walk out with a smile on their face. That means a lot to me," he says.

Over the years Dr. Kempf has supported a number of local causes including the YMCA, local schools and more. He cares about Ashland and the people who live here and understands the importance of giving back to his community.
