Ashlee Simpson Bittersweet World Early Album Review
Ashlee Simpson Powers Through a Bittersweet World
The first single off of Bittersweet World is OuttaMy Head (Ay Ya Ya). The song is produced by Timbaland. The track is definitely not like other tracks out today. The song has a distinctively 80's vibe to it. The song is fairly catchy however it might not have been the best choice for a first single.
The second single is Little Miss Obsessive featuring Tom Higgenson from The Plain White T's. The song is completely different than the first single. This track leans more into the pop-rock genre which made Ashlee a star in the first place. On the track Ashlee sounds miles better vocally than she did on her previous albums.
Murder is a very urban track produced by Timbaland. The track features up and coming rapper Izza Kizza. The song originally featured Travis McCoy from The Gym Class Heroes. Ashlee's unique voice is fairly solid on the track.
Rule Breaker is a mix between urban and rock. The song features interesting vocal harmonies and sort of puts Ashlee in the same light as Fergie yet with a more rock style edge.
What I've Become is one of the stronger tracks on the album. The song is rock driven with a feel similar to Ashlee's first album just edgier.
Hot Stuff is a very 80's inspired track. Chad Hugo of the Neptunes and Kenna worked on the track and you can clearly hear the Neptunes influence. The song is very eccentric and comical and shows off Ashlee's personality.
Boys is another solid track collaborated on by Chad Hugo and Kenna. The song is very different than other tracks out now. The song sounds like a mixture between her sister Jessica's Public Affair and The Cardigans Love Fool.
Ragdoll sounds like a mix between the 80's with rock and hip hop. The track is interesting however not one of the best tracks on the album.
Never Dream Alone is one of the few ballads on the album. The song is fine melodically however the song shows off Ashlee's vocal weaknesses.
Bittersweet World is an interesting mix between hip hop and rock. Both of the genres are represented however the album lacks cohesion. Overall Bittersweet World gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Ashlee Simpson make sure you pick up Bittersweet World when it is available in stores on April 22nd.
