Ashley Judd Biography: Beauty, Brains, Humanitarian and Actress
Is Ashley Judd Reaching for Political Position with Harvard Enrollment?
Personal
On December 12, 2001, Judd married Scottish race car driver, Dario Franchitti and does not, as of yet, have any children. She has concerns for the children who are orphaned and will think twice before having biological children.
Beauty
Ashley Judd was named "People" magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1996, 2000 and 2002. She has sported many short, medium and long hairstyles and gets her good looks from mom, Naomi. Her grace and beauty are hard to tone down. When filming "Double Jeopardy", the crew had a difficult time making Judd look more unattractive after spending pretend time in prison. Producer Leonard Goldberg said to the crew, "Guys, c'mon, she's in prison! We've got to stop with the makeup." "We'd like to take it off, but she's not wearing any!" was their response.
Education
Ashley Judd attended the University of Kentucky and was supposed to graduate in 1990, but didn't have enough credits. In 2007, she returned to complete her degree in French, with four minors. She is an alumna of Kappa Kappa Gamma and a Phi Beta Kappa nominee and was an honors program student at the University of Kentucky.
To further her career as a political activist, in 2009 Judd enrolled in the Harvard Kennedy School's Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) program. The program is geared toward enhancing public service careers and moving them toward a public or non-profit leadership position.
Humanitarian Efforts
Judd's contribution to earthquake relief in Haiti includes an auction held on e-Bay. John Calipari, basketball coach for Judd's alma mater, University of Kentucky, held an auction as part of "Hoops for Haiti" that featured an exclusive dinner at the coach's house with Calipari, his wife and Judd. Judd's personal chef will cater the affair.
Judd was outraged at the aerial killing of Alaska's wolves, promoted by former Governor, Sarah Palin. The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund and Judd began a campaign to stop Palin's wolf slaughter.
On the list of charities and foundations that Judd supports are the Children's Medical Research Institute, YouthAIDS, Malaria No More, SixDegrees.org, Five & Alive, Listen Campaign, Jeans for Genes and Population Services International.
Filmography
Self-proclaimed feminist, Ashley Judd, has a long list of movies in which she portrays strong women. Some of her movies include "Ruby in Paradise", in which she was awarded the Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Female in 1993, and "Norma Jean & Marilyn", being nominated for a Golden Globe award in 1997. She was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for her role in "Double Jeopardy" in 2000, and nominated for a Golden Globe award in 2005 for "De-Lovely". Her most recent film is entitled, "Tooth Fairy" and she co-stars with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
With Judd's enrollment in the Harvard Kennedy School's Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) program, it seems that her acting will soon take a back seat to her political career.
