Ashton Kutcher Wins Twitter Race with CNN for Malaria Charity

@Aplusk Gets to One Million Twitter Followers First Over CNN

Ashton Kutcher tweets a sweet tweet today - a victory tweet for a Twitter first. His charity race with CNN, to be the first to gain over one million followers, ended with the actor winning the contest.

Now Mr. Kutcher, or for your Twits out there @aplusk - his Twitter handle - will donate $100,000 to the 'Malaria No More' fund, so malaria nets can be purchased to help stop the spread of the dread disease. Ryan Seacrest is joining in on the beneficial fun, after announcing he'll also make a healthy donation to this good cause.

The net is buzzing about how cool it is that Ashton Kutcher won a popularity race with a news organization like CNN. Some now feel that Twitter has become so 'mainstream', it's lost some of its chic chat appeal or hip allure. Others are simply saying 'who cares?' Arguments can be made on all sides for all things, but one thing remains a clear fact.

Ashton Kutcher, CNN, Ryan Seacrest and anyone else who donates money for the malaria nets will save lives. After all the op-ed buzz, after all the pundits have had their say about the pros and cons and after all the pop culture sermonizing is over, that's what counts most.

Great work, Ashton, you've made the Twitterverse truly proud.

What a wonderful endeavor though I wonder what it means as far as his ever getting any use out of his Twitter account. Doesn't this mean that everything all those people post floods his Twitter page?
