Asian Decor for a Bath

Asian décor's hallmarks of serenity, grace, comfort and relaxation make it perfect for a bathroom. Here are 8 tips for incorporating Asian décor into your bathroom remodel.

Keep It Simple. Simplicity is an essential quality of Asian design, so choose fixtures and furnishings for your Asian-décor bath with simple designs and graceful lines. Remember that frequently less can be more in successful Asian décor.

Emphasize Natural Materials. Natural materials will help to enhance the sense of oneness with the natural world that is a characteristic of Asian décor. Wood, stone and bamboo all can take center stage in your Asian-inspired bath.

Opt for Natural colors. Earth tones and soft shades of green, gold and red will provide the right ambience for an Asian bath décor. If you want a more dramatic, China-inspired look, consider accents of imperial red and black.

Choose a Bamboo or Slate Floor. A bamboo floor is ideal for an Asian-themed bath, both because most bamboo comes from Asia, but also because of its natural beauty, moisture resistance, and durability. Also, bamboo is a natural, renewable resource. Another natural option for an Asian-décor bath is slate. Slate tile, which provides a durable, beautiful non-slip surface, is available in a wide range of natural colors.

Accessorize with an Asian Flair. Bamboo plants; orchids; silk flowers; pillar candles with floral, woodsy or spice scents; a fountain (to provide the restful sound of falling water); and Oriental-inspired artwork all can contribute to your Asian theme.

Select a Bowl-Shaped Vessel Sink. One of the best ways to enhance your bath's Asian theme is by choosing a graceful bowl-shaped vessel sink made of glass or porcelain. There are many choices on the market decorated with Asian motifs such as koi and ducks or with Asian designs and symbols. Display your vessel sink on an Asian-style vanity or transform an Oriental chest into a vanity.

Choose a Rice Paper Shower Curtain. What could be more appropriate for an Asian-décor bath than a rice-paper shower curtain. These shower curtains are not really made of rice paper, but have swirl designs reminiscent of the look of rice paper. You can choose from a plain rice paper shower curtain or a patterned style. If a rice paper shower curtain isn't for you, look for one with an Asian motif, such as graceful peonies or Asian symbols.

Consider Bamboo Matchstick Roll-Up Blinds. If your bath has a window, consider installing bamboo matchstick roll-up blinds. Not only are they relatively inexpensive, but they come in a variety of natural shades and stains to complement your Asian bath décor.
