Asian Food for Vegetarians in New York

Travel in the U.S. - Food

For traveling vegetarians and vegans, cuisine from the continent of Asia is often the best option. Restaurants that serve Asian food, particularly Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese, are usually the most vegetarian- and vegan-friendly. That being said, cosmopolitan New York City boasts several Asian restaurants that are vegetarian-only -- meaning no meat of any sort (fish included!). These restaurants, which are very few and far between in most of America, are much more common in New York. So, if you are a vegan or vegetarian traveling to New York City, be sure to stop by and dine at one of these restaurants.

Wild Ginger
Location: 380 Broome Street, New York, NY 10013
Neighborhood: Little Italy
Phone: 212.966.1883
website: wildgingervegan.com

Wild Ginger is definitely not to be missed! It is a vegan-only Asian fusion restaurant that serves classic dishes that usually only meat-eaters are privy to trying. Instead of focusing on replicating meat like many other vegan and vegetarian restaurants, Wild Ginger instead experiments with seitan and tofu in different ways. With a ton of fresh vegetables, this place is really a must-try for all, whether vegetarian or not.

Buddha Bodai
Location: 5 Mott Street, New York, NY 10013
Neighborhood: Chinatown
Phone: 212.566.8388
website: chinatownvegetarian.com

Buddha Bodai is a vegetarian Chinese restaurant in the heart of New York City's Chinatown district. For those who haven't yet tried vegetarian Chinese food, it is really a unique cuisine. Using gluten and tofu and the mainstays of the dishes, the tastes are different and delicious. Buddha Bodai is also a great place to try out the vegetarian dim sum -- something that most vegetarians never are able to do.

Purchasing and wearing products that are completely animal-free is just as important as refraining from eating animal products. There are plenty of brands out there that make faux-leather bags, shoes, and other accessories. Take a look at this great looking totally vegan shoulder bag for your next trip into the City: Staying Alive Handbag.

Thanks for the info. It's often easy to find a veg-friendly Asian establishment. Nicely done.
