Elisia Yun
The Asian Golden Cat is an exotic cat found in Southeast Asia, and can make good pets. They resemble the African Golden Cat in a way; however, compared to the African Golden Cat, they are slightly smaller in size. Their population numbers are being affected and threatened by deforestation, the loss of habitat, and hunting. In average, these cats live an average of 18 years, and are popular and famous for their strong-looking appearance.

The Asian Golden Coat is known for their beautiful coat; their coat color is usually known to be a golden color although many people sometimes site reddish-brown to grey Asian Golden Cats depending on the location and the habitat that they are residing in. Sometimes, there have also been all black Asian Golden Cats showing up; some of these cats have coats with patterns of spots and stripes on them as well. As you can see, there is a huge variety to the colors of the coat that they have. They are marked with white stripes on their underbelly, and can weigh from 26 to 33 pounds, and are from 19 - 24 inches in length.

The habitats of these cats range quite a bit. Some of them have been found in deciduous forests while others are discovered in the tropical rainforests. Open grasslands will sometimes be a good place for them, and some have been known to live up to 10000 feet in the Himalayas. They live throughout East Asia to Africa and India.

These cats, in the wild, are nocturnal solitary hunters, and tend to stalk larger rodents, small deer, reptiles, insects, birds and amphibians depending on what is available in the location that they are in. They are excellent hunters, and are avid climbers.

If you are considering in getting such an exotic pet, it is important to do your research and homework on them. For one, it is recommended to have a scratching post, and places for them to hide. A steady supply of fresh meat is needed for their diet, and so is water and zoological vitamins. It is significant to bring them to an exotic pet veterinarian who will be able to deal and diagnose their disease and illnesses. Also, it is important to be able to discipline the cat at a young age. This is because while biting and clawing may not be too big of a problem when they are young, it can quickly escalate into a huge problem once they have matured. It is important for you to actually be able to commit life-time care for the pet which s averagely 18 years!

The Asian Golden Cat is actually being threatened in their home environment because they are being hunted for their beautiful pelts. They have also suffered huge losses in their population count due to deforestation, and loss of habitat. Recently, the population of the Asian Golden cat is classified as threatened.
