Aspen Mountain, also known as Ajax, rises above the town of Aspen, Colorado. It has a top elevation of 11,215 feet and a vertical drop of 3,269 feet. Leading to the mountain are 76 trails for beginners, intermediate and experts made accessible by 8 lifts, that include 7 chair lifts and 1 cable car line that is a uniquely-designed gondola. At the Silver Queen Gondola, skiers and snowboarders sit back to back. There are exits on 3 sides. The view at the mountain summit is also refreshing. One can have a magnificent view of the surrounding White River National Forest and a panoramic view of the town.
The ski resort is also convenient for guests who are lodging in town. Snowboarders are also welcome at Aspen Mountain. However, the highly-priced lift tickets, sometimes prevent visitors to ski areas in surrounding towns.
Skiers simply love the place. You can take your pick there from steeps to Volkswagen size bumps - to smooth groomers - to tree runs. For snowboarders, however, they must watch out for those bump runs. Skiers can be extra protective over their equally famous moguls. When in Aspen Mountain, it is also a must to try the "Shrine" run.
Not everyone who comes to Aspen though, would want to show off their skills on bump runs. There are definitely other activities that will fill your days if you will not spend all of your days skiing in Aspen, Colorado. You can enjoy cross-country skiing, riding on snow-cats and hiking, among other things. The town is filled with boutiques and cafes for those who want to stroll along the streets. The town also has a good transportation system. There would be no problem if you want to try skiing as ski instructions and equipment are abundant in the area.
Aspen is also home to great nightlife, different dining opportunities with more than 100 restaurants there to choose from, and fantastic people watching. You can expect to recognize some celebrities as Aspen ostensibly is the place where the rich and famous spend their Colorado ski days.
This quaint town is a little over 200 miles West of Denver, Colorado. Lodging would pose no problem in Aspen. There are numerous places to stay in and around the town.
Aspen indeed has lots to offer skiers, as well as those who enjoy the night life in a ski town. However, since it is a well known place with its tag as the playpen of the rich and famous, you therefore, expect incredibly large crowds always and long lift lines on the slopes. Nonetheless, these could just be the exciting part of your vacation. So many people choose to go to this ski vacation spot simply for these exciting reasons.
