I believe for most people the problem lays in society's open belief that you live, and then you die, end of story. Although a large percentage of society does believe in a "higher power" there are still those which believe that there is only one chance at a mortal existence. This belief is that when you pass from this world you either go to heaven or you go to hell. Let's take a look at all of the pieces in the puzzle before we make our final conclusion.
Many eastern religions believe and teach reincarnation. This is where the beliefs of most eastern and western religions disagree. The oldest civilization (the Sumerians) founded their religion on the "personal reincarnation:" the evolution of the soul. Among some of the other religions that hold to this belief are: Hindu, Buddhists, Vedic, and the Druids (who some believe built Stonehenge) just to mention a few.
The Hindu religion believes that "Atman" (the soul) is transformed through life after life through reincarnation as it transmigrates for the soul's evolution. As you look at most eastern religions, you begin to notice that most of the eastern religions have beliefs in reincarnation that are very similar in belief. It's only in the western religions where this view is different.
Now let's take a look at what the Bible itself says about reincarnation. Two of the most spiritual people in the Bible were "taken up" and did not die: Elijah, and Enoch. The book of Kings speaks about Elijah being taken up. Then the book of Malachi spoke that Elijah "would return." His return was spoken of by Jesus himself (according to the canonical gospels) as John the Baptist being Elijah's return. That pretty much sounds like reincarnation doesn't it? Jesus himself was resurrected and also expected to return, this also sounds like reincarnation.
The law of "Karma" is the spine of reincarnation. The Bible speaks of "You reap what you sow." Without reincarnation this passage has no meaning. It has been stated that "Karma is a force that overleaps death," which refers to Karma from a previous life. The Indus peninsula is considered to be the "stronghold" of belief for the teaching of the transmigration of the soul. Isn't that what we are supposed to do evolve and be more God like?
How can anyone become more God like in just one life if Jesus himself couldn't do it? If God loves us like the Bible states, are we supposed to believe that we get just one try to succeed, and after that it's off to the ole fire and brimstone? That would be like telling your child that they had one chance to learn to tie their shoes, and if they don't get it right the first time we're going to set them on fire. Is that what a loving God does?
Most of the times no matter what you hear or see you have to get the information first hand to believe it entirely, so that's exactly what I did. I have had (along with my wife) several past life regressions done.
Some of these were done privately, and some were done in a group setting. The first regression was done privately, and brought on a very emotional response. What I saw in my mind convinces me beyond a shadow of doubt that my soul has lived on this dimension before.
The choice what we learn in each lifetime is our own decision. We decide how far we are ready to evolve in each life. If society taught us that we had another chance after this life, how many people do you think would just take advantage of this life and opt out for the next try? Probably more than you think. So, do the best that you can with this life, because you just might have to do it again.
