Associated Content Art Project

While sitting at my computer the other day I was wondering how fun it would be to lead my own community art project. The community that I wanted to target was freelance writers and I wanted the project to be a giant writing project.

The basis of my project is simple, to create a rolodex of "This Day in History" articles created by folks who write for a living. Associated Content contributors are invited to create an article that lists or discusses any major world events that happened on their birthday. It doesn't matter if two contributors share the same birthday that will just increase the amount of information that is available to read.

The rules are simple:

1. Title your article in MONTH YEAR format. For example, I was born on the 18th of May, so the title of my article would be "May 18".

2. List as much information as you can about what makes your birthday so special.

3. Be sure to list one of the events of your article as your own birth to make the article extra personal.

That's it!

The goal of this project is to teach freelance writers how to look back in history and keep the spirit of history alive through their writing. As writers we must understand our connection to the past. Writers and scribes were the first to begin the process of preserving history and creating stories for posterity. Too often freelance writers will become distracted with projects and writing assignments that they may lose focus of where they have come from. Any writer who has not yet discovered the power of history will be pleased at the amount of inspiration that can be drawn from reflecting on their history.

My other goal for this project is that people can learn how to appreciate their own birthdays. As we grow older the excitement that we once felt for our birthday seems to fade. I hope that this project will help adults everywhere remember the most important event that happened on their birthday; their own birth!
