Reasons for Homeschooling, written by content producer Brenda Hoffman, was an easy pick for favorites list. Brenda is also one of my favorite content producers period. She gives an in depth look at several different reasons that homeschooling parents choose to homeschool. The article offers a carefully drawn out look at homeschooling in today's society, touching lightly on several myths. An absolutely excellent read for anyone considering the option of homeschooling their child. Please be sure to read Brenda's other articles which also focus on homeschooling.
Traci Pederson provided the article A Home Flowing For Homeschooling which is a look into organizing your homeschooling area. Organization is a key point to a successful homeschool and Traci's methods have been proven by others. It is important to create a positive learning environment and this article provides ways to do exactly that. A great read for anyone interested in how to organize their living space for a homeschooling area.
Homeschooling Methods, also written by Brenda Hoffman, was another easy pick for Associated Content's Top Ten Homeschooling Articles of 2006. Again, Brenda provides readers with carefully researched information on the several different homeschooling methods that parents use. She provides examples of these methods and how they may benefit the homeschooling parent. Another excellent article by Brenda Hoffman!
Considering Homeschooling? was written earlier in the year by Laura College. The article made the top ten list because of its informative value to anyone who is considering removing their child from the regular school system and keeping them home to homeschool. It is very factual based and extremely well researched. Laura did her homework when it came to finding statistics for various categories relating to homeschooling. A well written article that is highly recommended.
The Pro's and Con's of Homeschooling written by Sabah Karimi provides a closer look at the negative and positive aspects of homeschooling. Ms. Karimi impressed me with her detailed look at every aspect involved in homeschooling. I was unable to determine if Sabah Karimi actually homeschools a child, was homeschooled as a child, or simply has an interest in the entire homeschooling society as a whole. However, she was careful to show each benefit with an explanation as well as provide the challenges that homeschooling parents face as well. A recommended article for anyone who wants to see both sides of the coin.
Laura Quintile wrote Homeschool Your Child Practically Free Using Online Sources. This article couldn't be left off the top ten articles list simply for its valuable resources which Laura provides. Most homeschooling parents are living on a fixed budget since one parent typically has to stay home. As a parent herself who homeschools it is obvious that she knows her homeschooling resources since she provides many terrific resources for free. Further research on Associated Content shows that Laura Quintile has also published other articles on homeschooling, all of which could have easily made the top ten articles list!
Being a huge advocate for unschooling, I could not leave Carrie Freeman's article, Unschooling as a Home School Method off the top ten list. Her article details exactly what unschooling is, the benefits and how to do it. Carrie has taken an impressive look at unschooling as a whole. This article is a terrific read for anyone who is either looking for unschooling information or a new method for homeschooling.
Homeschool: Rediscovering the Child by Tad Cronn was probably one of my favorite discoveries during my research for homeschooling articles. After wading through literally dozens of articles, finding an article written from the male point of view was exactly what I needed. I absolutely loved Tad's look at his child through the eyes of a homeschooling parent. I enjoyed his personal look at his child rediscovered himself and Tad saw the benefits of homeschooling. This a terrific read for anyone looking for a personal look into how homeschooling can turn a child's life around.
Mary Peterson wrote Homeschool Provides Better Socialization which was an absolute must for the AC top ten articles list. Why? Because lack of socialization for homeschooling children is simply more of a myth today than ever before and Mary doesn't sugar coat her article. She details exactly how her children are socialized and why it is more beneficial than a classroom environment. Kudo's to Mary Peterson for her look into the socialization myth and providing us with a look at how her own children are socialized!
And last, but most certainly not least, Elisa Nova wrote the article Homeschooling Our Children and the Dumbing Down of Public Schools. It made the top ten list based on several points. Elisa makes it a pleasure to read her articles, by injecting serious humor into an already serious subject. She dictates her plans to homeschool her future children, while still realizing that each child is individual and some plans might change. She dispels myths, show ideas and in general her article was extremely informative and I felt very well written.
While researching Associated Content's Homeschooling articles, I was disturbed by many of the articles I read, while at the same time being pleasantly surprised by many others that did not make my top ten list. So please do not stop with only these homeschooling articles listed here. Associated Content has produced dozens upon dozens of excellent articles on the subject of homeschooling and this is simply a list of one content producers favorite articles after researching many.
