Associated Press Releases Preseason Poll of Top 25 Football Teams

Karen Gros

The Associated Press (AP) released its annual preseason football poll earlier today on August 20, 2011 and the No. 1 team in no surprise to football fans. Oklahoma took the top ranking with 36 first place votes, followed by Alabama at the number 2 spot, Oregon at number 3, LSU at number 4, and Boise State rounding out the top five spots.

It's interesting to note that Oregon and LSU are ranked 3 and 4, respectively. The Oregon Ducks will face off with the LSU Tigers in the Cowboys Classic at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 7:00 pm Central Standard Time. This will be a good match-up between two talented teams and will no doubt go down to the wire. ESPN's College GameDay will be broadcasting live from Cowboys Stadium to cover the event, which promises to kick off the season with lots of excitement.

LSU has been in the Top 10 in the AP Preseason Poll for five of the seven years under the direction of head coach Les Miles, who has served as the Tigers head coach for the past seven years. The Tigers were also ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll.
