Of asteroids and aliens: An asteroid will pass by the Earth this Tuesday (Nov. 8). It will be closer than the moon. On a related note, our government has responded to petitions involving aliens visiting Earth. They say they have not. From this report: "The petition calling on the government to disclose any knowledge of or communication with extraterrestrial beings was signed by 5,387 people, and 12,078 signed the request for a formal acknowledgement from the White House that extraterrestrials have been engaging the human race."
From NASA on the asteroid: Although 2005 YU55 is in an orbit that regularly brings it to the vicinity of Earth (and Venus and Mars), the 2011 encounter with Earth is the closest this space rock has come for at least the last 200 years. Photo is from NASA for release.
