Astrology Charts, Star Signs Updated

What's Your (New) Sign?

Angela Tague
Minneapolis Star-Tribune reporter/columnist Bill Ward challenged the age old question, "What's your sign?" in an 234-word article published by his employer on January 9, 2010.

(Read Ward's article here.)

After Ward interviewed Parke Kunkle from the Minnesota Planetarium Society, the world of horoscopes and astrology -- not astronomy -- as we know it has been turned upside down.

According to Kunkle, a board member for the Society and instructor at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, the moon's gravitational pull has "bumped" the stars out of the original alignment that most popular horoscope charts are based on. So, it's time to (possibly) adopt a new astrological sign.

During morning show banter radio announcers across the country have challenged listeners to accept a new star sign while Facebook posts express confusion over which horoscope to consult.

Are you ready to adopt a new star sign?

Here's the break down based on the current alignment of the stars:

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11
Pisces: March 11-April 18
Aries: April 18-May 13
Taurus: May 13-June 21
Gemini: June 21-July 20
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20

Take note of the new, 13th star sign: Ophiuchus. According to Ward's article, the Babylonians only wanted 12 star signs, so they bumped the unlucky 13th contender. But, now in the updated star charts, Ophiuchus is finally making a debut in November and December.

Kunkle reminds his audience personality is not determined by astronomy and star positions.

This seems to be causing quite the uproar. I stayed a Virgo, but a friend who had tattoos of his 2 daughters' Zodiac signs is upset - they've both changed!

Could I have been following the wrong star all these years? I guess not, I'm still a Leo!
