At Dayton, Ohio's Appalachian Festival, Neighbors Celebrate Diversity

Neighbors Celebrating Cultural Diversity in Applachian Ancestry with Traditional Foods and Crafts

Annamarie
Come on over to our East End Dayton Appalachian Cultural Diversity Parade and Festival. This family event does not allow alcohol or violence -- just great fun, food, crafts, and entertainment at the July 11th parade and July 12th festival. We are located at 624 Xenia Ave in Dayton, Ohio. We welcome you with the old time neighborliness of our ancestors from every part of the United States and the world. Hey now, be sure to stop by get ya some beans and cornbread, the best hamburgers in the world, and lots of ethnic food, conversation, and entertainment.

I joined the East End Neighbors about 9 years ago to help begin neighborly events so that families could come together in a peaceful happy setting and work for the good of all neighbors and improve the neighborhood.

So many neighbors have volunteered over the years to bring this dream of "NEIGHBORLINESS" become reality. It's open to anyone, no alcohol, no violence to visit our neighborhood and enjoy the parade, festival , and entertainment or to be a vendor to have a booth that celebrates their hobbies, family ancestry, cooking skills, and flea market specials.

The profits of this event and local sponsors, help to raise money for the families and youth to maintain this peaceful family oriented neighbor focus year round and keep this event operating each year.

This is a wonderful joint celebration with anyone who is neighborly and want s to share in the fun activities as they learn about other's cultural ethnic ancestry history.

There will be neighborhood demonstrators storytelling, making quilts, doing basketry, caning chairs, corn husk and rag dolls, old time methods of making natural pictures by recycling thrown away items. There will also be flea market vendors, as well as, lots of food vendors, free crafts for families and children, and the "neighborly touch" of bringing joy to each other with peaceful conversation.

We hope to see ya there.

I researched your article about the upcoming Appalachian Festival and saw the name of an entertainer, Donnie White. Labor Day weekend is the Fiddlers Convention at Renfro Valley (KY) Barndance, and I am coordinating and also acting as emcee of the Annual Renfro Valley Alumni Show that Saturday. We are trying to locate a past performer named Donnie White. Could this possibly be the same one? He was good friends with my husband, Boyd. If so, PLEASE have him contact us at 615/547-9698. Thank you.
