At Governors Ball, Oscar Winners Will Have Their Personalized Nameplates Affixed to Their Oscar Statuettes
Namely, the Oscar statuette is not really complete until the personalized nameplate with the Oscar winner's name, category, film title and year is affixed to the Oscar. In the past, the Oscar winners had their personalized nameplates attached to their Oscars in the weeks after the Academy Awards.
The Governors Ball is the official post-Oscar gala of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and follows the Academy Awards ceremony. This year, the Academy's Art Directors Branch governor and costume designer Jeffrey Kurland is the chair of the Governors Ball.
Among the 1,500 guests at the Governors Ball will be all Academy Award winners, nominees, presenters and other telecast participants.
This year, in the special assigned area at the Ball, the technicians will affix the personalized nameplates to each Oscar. R.S. Owens, the manufacturer of the Oscar statuettes, has also produced and engraved nameplates.
Since the Oscar winners are not known until the opening of the envelope at the Academy Awards ceremony, R.S. Owens has manufactured 197 personalized nameplates, one for each nominee in each category. After the Academy Awards, the personalized nameplates of the winners will be affixed to the Oscar. The nameplates of the nominees who will not win will be recycled.
Sequoia Productions with special events producer Cheryl Cecchetto is the producer of the Governors Ball for the 21st consecutive year.
The main features of the special Governors Ball's style design evocative of the 1930s "Streamline Moderne" are the ceiling with beaded fiber optic chandeliers and raised promenade stage with spiral staircase. The muted color palette of amethyst, mattes and copper has been chosen for the Ball.
According to the Academy's press release, approximately 10,000 flowers will decorate the Governors Ball, from hydrangeas from New Zealand to Rothchild orchids from Thailand, roses from Ecuador and Lisianthus from Holland.
Master Chef Wolfgang Puck, whose empire of upscale and casual restaurants has approximately $350 million in annual revenue, was selected for the 16th consecutive year to create the comfort food menu including traditional smoked salmon and mini gold-chocolate Oscar statuettes.
Guests will celebrate with 1,200 bottles of Moet and Chandon champagne. Boxes for the guests to take home mini gold-chocolate Oscars, the tradition at the Governor's Ball, will be also provided this year.
Governor's Ball will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hollywood and Highland Center.
Academy Awards will be broadcast live in more than 200 countries.
