Atheist Christopher Hitchens Undergoing New Cancer Treatment

COMMENTARY | According to the Telegraph Magazine, prominent atheist Christopher Hitchens is undergoing an experimental treatment in a bid to beat cancer of the esophagus, an often fatal disease which he was diagnosed with last year.

Interestingly, one of the developers of Hitchens' treatment is an evangelical Christian -- esteemed geneticist Dr. Francis Collins.

Though it seems counterintuitive, Hitchens, author of "God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything," and Collins, author of the bestselling book "The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief," are close friends.

This revolutionary new treatment involves the mapping of Hitchens' entire genetic make-up in an effort to target his diseased DNA. "These are early stages, but in theory it should attack the primary site of the tumor," says Hitchens.

Hitchens is one of the darlings of the woefully misguided New Atheism movement. Other prominent members of the movement include bestselling authors Richard Dawkins, who wrote "The God Delusion," Daniel Dennett, writer of "Breaking the Spell," and Sam Harris, who penned "The End of Faith."

All of the aforementioned atheists militantly advance an anti-God agenda. As Timothy Keller, founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City and author of "The Reason for God" notes, their hope is for "religion to be so strongly condemned, ridiculed, and formally privatized that it becomes weakened and marginalized."

I hope Hitchens is cured of the cancer that is ravaging his body, and I also hope that he comes to place his trust and faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, as his good friend and doctor Francis Collins has. It is my heartfelt hope, in fact, that one day Christopher Hitchens will help advance the cause of Christ with as much energy, passion and conviction as he now unwittingly advances the cause of Satan.

Miracles do happen. Regarding Hitchens, I'm not sure whether the greater miracle would be a cure or a conversion, but it would be lovely if both were to happen.

"For with God nothing will be impossible" (Luke 1:37).

Hitchens is "woefully misguided?" I would say that about you.
