O Athena
I saw you as no great-sized creature,
But ruthless, and with wits about you
You feared no man.
The force of your honesty compelled men to employ
Great strategy and cunning.
Your place usurped, your power diverted-
But victory is possible
And achieved with the thrill of sure intelligence.
The fight is necessary and you win because you are better
Stronger, smarter, keener.
They usually treat you as an extension.
But not so! You were annexed against your will.
If sometimes you weave a tale, perhaps
It's only because you deserved greater authority
From those who dared to forget.
