Atkins and Carbohydrates

Almost everyone around the world has heard of the Atkins diet. It is probably the most controversial diet among the low carbohydrate diets. Rivals on all sides have tried to duplicate or modify the Atkins Diet plan

Atkins is loved my many who swear there is no other way to lose and maintain your weight, while the critics are not bashful about the negatives of Atkins. One of the largest complaints is that Atkins is nearly absent of whole grains, which are necessary for a healthy diet. Lowering the carbohydrates from the diet also lowers the amount of fiber needed for healthy digestion.

Research the information on both sides of the issue before considering the Atkins diet. Take caution with any diet that restricts certain food groups. For healthy weight loss our bodies need a balance of protein, vegetables, fruit, fats, and whole grains. Weight loss is the direct result of burning more calories than you consume.

Good carbohydrates consist of wholegrain foods, oats, brown rice, pasta, potatoes, whole grain cereal, peas, and beans. Bad carbohydrates consist of, sugar, cakes, cookies, candy, soft drinks and most processed foods.

By eliminating most of the bad carbohydrates as directed by Atkins a person could honestly be successful with the program. Therefore, there are many that have strictly followed the Atkins diet with tremendous results.

For maximum benefit of the Atkins plan it must be a lifelong commitment because even when you reach the maintenance phase of the diet you will continue to restrict your carbohydrates. This is a huge commitment especially in our society with family and friends gathering for the many occasions that make life enjoyable. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, sports events and office luncheons are all events that involve foods and almost always desserts.

However many people have had good results dieting on the Atkins plan. The testimonials have resulted in Atkins being one of the most talked about, tested, and tried diet systems for over twenty years.

Those who have had success with Atkins are enthusiastic about the program and may not admit that they are also sacrificing a good deal of enjoyment because of the restricted dietary choices.

Many have not had success with Adkins, and they cannot be convinced to try it ever again. There are many low carbohydrate diet plans to choose from, if you are interested in that method of dieting the only way to determine if Atkins will work for you is to give it a try.
