Atkins Diet and Appetite Suppression

It is difficult to persuade yourself to stay on a weight loss diet if you feel as if you are starving. Constant hunger is one of the banes of many diet programs. A diet plan needs to be designed to allow you to enjoy good food and not be attacked by hunger pangs soon after a meal. Many weight loss plans are so restrictive that dieters often feel they are starving between meals.

With the combination of foods allowed on the Atkins plan, hunger between meals will soon fade away making it easier to stay on the diet and continue with your weight loss.

The Atkins diet recommends plenty of protein which has the power to satisfy hunger more easily and the proteins combined with healthy fats can keep you feeling full for a longer period of time.

One of the best appetite suppressing foods recommended on the Atkins diet are eggs. Eggs are a great form of quick and easy protein offering about six grams of protein each. Studies have shown that eating eggs for breakfast could actually stave off hunger pangs through the rest of the day.

Enjoy the whole egg because the yolks contain lutein and xenazanthin both of these nutrients have been shown to have incredible effects on eye health. Eggs also contain choline for healthy brain function and memory.

Other proteins recommended are all types of meat, including beef, pork, poultry and fish, in other words all meats. Wild game meats and cheese, are also recommended proteins. You will need to control some processed meat such as deli meats or hot dogs that may contain small amounts of carbohydrates.

Vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, have appetite-suppressing effects, are high in fiber and are essential vegetables recommended on the Atkins diet plan.

The Atkins diet encourages eating small protein balanced meals a few times a day to keep your blood sugar stable and avoid carbohydrate cravings. The protein, fat and vegetables on the Atkins plan are necessary to keep your blood sugar in balance by providing just enough of each type of food, combined with the proper amount of carbohydrates provided by the vegetables.

The low carbohydrate vegetables provide quick energy while the protein gives the meal staying power. This is the best combination to control hunger and suppress your appetite.

The Atkins diet offers enough protein as well as vegetables and salads to keep cravings under control and allow you to eat almost all you want of the allowed foods without counting calories.
