Atlanta Falcon Fights Animal Abuse Charges

Ayanna Guyhto
On the evening of February 18th 2007, Blair Anderson took her pit-bull mix, Kilo to the Animal Emergency in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Officials report that on the way to the animal hospital, Kilo was vomiting blood, and unfortunately, the dog was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The significance of this case is that Blair Anderson is the girlfriend of Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman, Jonathan Babineaux---who has been accused of causing the dog's death.

THE BEGINNING

Problems began when Anderson reported to police that she and Babineaux had recently had a heated argument. Shortly after their exchange, Anderson went to the movies. She claims that Jonathan Babineaux called her while she was out, and informed her that something was wrong with Kilo, the dog. He advised that she should come home and check on him. When she returned home, it was apparent that the animal was in "physical distress." Babineaux met his girlfriend at the animal hospital and denied any responsibility for his death.

THE UGLY MESS

Police however, have revealed that there are certain inconsistencies with Babineaux's story as it relates to the injuries that Kilo sustained. Thus he was arrested at his Lawrenceville town home around 1 a.m. Monday morning (2/19/2007) under the charge of felony cruelty to animals. Information obtained from the animal center reveals that Kilo died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Jonathan Babineaux was released from jail on $2,300 bond. Police have revealed that they are waiting for further test results from the Animal Emergency Center of Gwinnett. But they have claimed that if Babineaux is convicted of felony cruelty to animals, he could face anywhere from 1 to 5 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $15,000.

Babineaux's lawyer, Pat McDonough maintains that his client has done nothing wrong, and has decided to withhold all comments until reports from the Animal Emergency Center have been released. Furthermore, supporters of Babineaux have stressed that there has been no evidence of domestic violence previously reported. But because of the nature of the case, Humane Society Director, Richard Rice has issued a formal letter to the District Attorney (Daniel Porter) requesting that Jonathan Babineaux be "prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law" in the event he is found guilty. Another dog, Ace, who lived in the household with Kilo has been released into the care of Animal Control, while the case is being investigated.

I guess this kinda proves that people are innocent until proven guilty, huh? Look at all these pathetic knee-jerk reactions.

I can't believe that Jonathan would EVER do anything like that! I knew him from college, we had class together. As he looks, he was such a teddy bear. Never one to seem like the kind that would hurt anyone or an animal. He was always smiling, but somewhat quiet. I can't, however, say that the "limelight" won't do that to someone-meaning being famous. I hope and pray that he didn't do it, bc then that would make me loose all faith in a man that I believed in as well as a team that I still have faith in. Just bc Vick screwed up, doesn't mean that everyone else in the team did!!!!

I hate these guys. I mean, I really hate these guys. I've written countless emails to Arthur Blank and Commissioner Goodell asking why this piece of trash called Babineaux was allowed to attend training camp. Goodell had the sense to suspend Vick, why not this other Falcon THUG? I really, really, really hope they both rot in a special kind of hell.

I didn't realize that Blanks was recruiting from the Fulton Country Jail.

The NFL and these team owners are going to learn the hard way, when they have to start paying these THUGS from their own bank account.

I will watch re runs of the SOPRANO'S before I watch The Falcons play. These guys are criminal thugs! I hope they rot at the Graybar Hotel for a long time.
