Atlanta Falcons Clinch Playoffs with Matt Ryan at Helm

The Atlanta Falcons have had a rough couple of years. Most of the Falcons trouble was caused by their ex-star player, Michael Vick. When the Falcons lost Vick, it caused the Falcons to have a couple of rebuilding years.

With the turmoil going on with the Falcons, sports newscasters were saying at the beginning of the year that that the Falcons would be lucky to get 4 or 5 wins this season. What people did not count on was the Matt Ryan would turn the team around. Matt Ryan is the Falcons rookie quarterback for the 2008-2009 season. So far, this rookie has been leading the Falcons with good precision and great decisions from the pocket.

The stand-out man that Ryan has been throwing to is Roddy White. Roddy White has 85 receptions and 1334 yards this season (according to ESPN.com). White is ahead of all other Falcons receivers with catching yards, he almost has double the yards that Jenkins has and Jenkins is second best. Teams are finding it difficult to stop the Falcon offense.

Another aspect that people overlooked was that the Falcons have great team chemistry this year. This team chemistry has allowed them to avoid conflict and also pushed them past 5 losses. Granted, no one can possibly calculate how well a team will work together before they are seen playing together, but the media pushed them so far out of the picture that the idea was not even explored.

So, with Matt Ryan at the helm, and all of the players working well together, the Falcons have managed to push forward. The Falcons are 10 wins and 5 losses with one more game to play. By winning yesterday, the Falcons clinched a spot in the play-offs.

Teams will have to be aware of the Falcons, they are an underdog with a mean bite. If Ryan continues to lead the Falcons well, then they have a good chance at going far in the play-offs and perhaps all the way to the Super Bowl. Keep your eyes on Ryan and White as they will continue to hook-up for incredible amounts of yardage.

You are very right! I was a little short-sighted in leavin out Turner. Thanks for the reminder, he has done great for the Facons this year.

great article!!! i agree completely about Matt Ryan, but don't leave out another critical point. Having Michael Turner, the leagues 2nd leading rusher, isn't a bad combination with Ryan and White.
