Although, this some-what highly predicted January 2009 snowstorm seemed to be a bit MILDER than weather forecasters had expected. Creating approx. one-half inch snow or more during the daytime and eventually leading up to 1-2 inches during the night in the Metro-Atlanta GA. area.------------
Local school officials decided the day before on Wednesday to shut-down certain parts of Metro-Atlanta schools? Stating that "it's better to be safe than sorry!" Even still? Most Atlanta residents state that they "have had a really good time regarding this small amount of beautiful snow!" Which for us USA southerners, we rarely get to see! ---------------
This light snow drift continued to different parts of Atlanta, Ga. during the night mostly in the southern west metro-Atlanta Carrolton location and the upper elevated mountain areas called beautiful "Blue-Ridge Georgia". Government school officials the day before had no way of knowing if these weather conditions would create a threat for residents or school children at the time? ---------------
In this past week of early January 2010. Atlanta residents have unfortunately had to contend with the "record-breaking low temperatures" As low as 16 degrees fahrenheit. Thus creating problems such as broken home and commercial water pipes, automobile engines freezing over, even reports of underground gas lines bursting into flames.-------------
"Atlanta, USA residents are just not equipped and trained to handle these unusual weather road conditions for snow and freezing rain" which happens about once or twice each year! Fortunately for Atlanta residents this particular rare event of SNOW does not require any special training of any kind".----------
However, because southerners here the USA are not accustomed to driving in these sometimes harmful weather conditions. They often times lose control of their vehicle(s). Even ifs its just one-half inch of snow or freezing rain, which weather experts call "Black Ice", which is also extremely hard to see at night while driving. -----------------
The Atlanta Journal Constitution has been quoted on this particular date in history of January 07, 2010:
Quote: "The Georgia Department of Transportation has at the ready 2,300 employees, 700 pieces of equipment, 20,000 tons of rock salt and 20,000 tons of small gravel. Workers already have been dispatched to some areas in North Georgia, and crews officials will be paying special attention to bridges and elevated roads in metro Atlanta for the rush hour.
The problems will most likely come during Friday's morning commute when anything left on the roads from Thursday night will have frozen. Road conditions will be put on the DOT website". Unquote:---------------
At the present time of this article. Atlanta residents will have to continue and tolerate with the "record breaking average low temperatures" for this time of year into the next mid-week of January 2009. Which the majority of residents are also not prepared for? Ironically? Some native Atlanta residents normally wear "shorts" this time of year?.--------------
One of the true beautiful things about the Atlanta, Ga. USA location. Is the fact that it has all (4) four disguised seasons on this planet region we call earth. Most people that have lived and worked in this loving city state that "it has incredible changing weather" on a daily basis. "You never know what to wear anytime of the year!" But it's great at the same time!"----------------
