Atlanta Weather Forecast: Not Hot but Terribly Dreary

TA James
Well the fickle nature of the seasons is still upon us. Having survived the snow that had fallen in sheets in previous weeks, we are now gifted with rain and at times snow flurries. As if to add injury to insult Jack Frost, seems to be in full reign, and the Hot'lanta of before with shining sun, has been placed in a shroud of rain and icy cold temperatures. The change in the weather has led to more than enough cases of the flu and ice coating windshields in the morning.

For now we can expect rain and cold with a break in weather reported by Channel 2 Action News to occur Saturday and Sunday, then back to rain. I find that because of Georgia's drought it is much needed rain, however it is a terrible occurrence because unlike the snow, people tend to be on the roads a lot and are more reckless. I have yet to be able to understand that when a drop of water falls on the ground, why it is people start to drive into each other and free standing objects.

I've had a chance to talk with a few people about the change in the weather and was gifted with more than I expected from a lady named Carol whom works for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

'So how are you handling the cold weather?'

She smiles while huddling into her coat and scarf, looking out to see if MARTA is coming, "Trying to stay out of it as much as I can, covering up, and staying warm. I'm not doing lot some of these nuts and walking around with shorts on."

I'm in my own thick coat and gloves and know full well the way the people have changed as soon as it seems warm only to get hit with a drop in temperature and hit with rain a hour or so later.

'Do you think there's been an impact on public transportation in arrival times because of the cold weather and down pour?'

"What do you mean? Trains don't wait for no body and bus stops seem more packed than usual."

'How do you handle employees or coworkers late arrivals to work, by using the weather as an excuse?'

"Shoot, a lot of them come to work late anyway they just now have an excuse."

'Were you anywhere near down town when the snow flurries came last week?'

"Yes I was, traffic hadn't got bad yet but it was getting there. I think I left just in time."

'What do you have to say about people driving on the roads whom aren't use to the down pours?'

Breaking out into a laugh she says "Pull it over and wait the rain out or don't leave wherever you are, so you don't make it hard on those who can drive."

Well all I have to say is 'AMEN, to that.' So far I've seen accidents back to back off the downtown connector 85N and 85S, and cars flipped over in College Park, Georgia this morning. It's amazing how the snow was bad but the rain is much worse, I think it has a lot to do with people chancing the rain instead of the snow, but unsure of how to drive in it. Let's just pray that everyone makes it home safely or take's the advice of Carol and "pull it over and wait the rain out"
