Atlanta...Longing For Alan Hall

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli
Being in Atlanta always makes me think of you
wondering if my legs are following a path you have taken
If my eyes are looking in a direction that you once gazed
There's something about being in the city where you used to live
that makes me think "what if he's back here again?"
It's just some far-out fantasy
a dream that won't come true

There's something about being in Atlanta
that reminds me of the things we used to share
I cannot help but wonder
about the possibility of running into you
knowing it will never happen,
but what if it did?
would you recognize me?
would you stop and talk a while?
or would you pass me by?

I see your face in the men in business suits
eating lunch at the CNN center
and on the faces of the beggars outside the Georgia Dome
I hear your voice in a crowd of thousands
and in the whispering of the wind
I look for you every where I go
from the minute I arrive until the minute I go home
wishing I could see you again
if only to tell you that I loved you
just so you would know
that even after all these years
you are still a part of me.
