Nothing beats the charm, romance, and fun of a fondue dinner. Atlanta has only two fondue restaurants, but they offer some of the finest dining in town. One restaurant, Dante's Down the Hatch, should be counted among the nation's finest fondue restaurants.

I've written reviews for Dante's fondue restaurant before because every time I go there it is an experience to remember. Set in the ambiance of an old century ship, with a jazz band on deck, and a sumptuous fare of food which you cook fondue-style yourself, Dante's is the perfect atmosphere and restaurant for any special occasion.

That's saying a lot, but Dante's Down the Hatch has a lot to offer. You will not be disappointed in the food, atmosphere, or service. Patient deck hands (waiters) will teach you how to cook fondue if you need assistance as they attend to your every need.

Start out with apples, bread, and cheese. Then, enjoy and share one of Dante's Down the Hatch's find entrees: beef, chicken, pork, vegetables and more. A full bar is also available.

Dante's reserves a chocolate fondue service for one night a week, limited to one party. It is a two hour indulgence and delight, but must be requested in advance.

Dress business casual, club, or formal and you will fit in just fine. Reservations suggested, credit card recommended.

Atlanta's Other Choice for Fondue - The Melting Pot
The Melting Pot has two locations in metro Atlanta, one downtown in midtown and one in the north east suburbs at Town Center.

The Melting Pot is a little more casual and a little less expensive than Dante's Down the Hatch, where you are paying for atmosphere. Another big difference in Dante's Down the Hatch and The Melting Pot fondue restaurants is that The Melting Pot is a franchise.

Service is great and the atmosphere is laid back. The Melting Pot is a good place for families to enjoy the fondue restaurant experience together.

Start with a creamy cheese fondue and progress to filet mignon, shrimp, teriyaki-marinated sirloin, boneless breast of chicken and fresh fish accompanied by homemade dipping sauces and fresh vegetables.

All diners can enjoy the chocolate fondue desert special which includes a variety of fruits and cakes.

Dress business or business casual. Meals start at upward of $30 per person.
